About me

Triathlon & Endurance Coach

Ruth is a Professional triathlete after transitioning as a very successful Age Grouper under Will’s instruction for the past 8 years. Their coaching relationship achieved many incredible feats together including the Overall Age Group Win at the 2019 Ironman World Championships in Kona and then her first ever Pro Ironman win in Mallorca in 2021 with a sub-9 hour Ironman, and winning the following month at Ironman South Africa. She placed fifth in the Ironman World Championships (St. George, Utah 2022), and took her third Ironman title in Israel in 2022, finishing the year ranked 19th in the world.

Ruth has been coaching for Riot Racing Club for the past 4 years and has supported many fantastic athletes along the way utilising her breadth of knowledge and experience to get the very best out of people.

As a busy age grouper working full time, having a coach was a game changer for me in terms of juggling work with training to become the overall age group champion in Kona and become a professional triathlete. Seeing the community Will has built through Riot Racing Club with such a great range of athletes has been amazing, and I’m delighted to be one of their coaches.

I have now been coaching for a few years, from triathlon beginners to top end age groupers, helping athletes win age group podiums at world championships and overall wins at races. With my experience as both an age grouper and a professional triathlete I have lots of different resources to draw from to help athletes get the most out of themselves.

What does it mean to be amazing?

It’s not about winning every time or setting world records. It’s about challenging yourself, being brave, pushing through your doubts, and working hard to be better than you ever thought you could be. It’s about fighting through adversity, embracing failure and learning from it.

It’s a journey and I invite you to join me as we become amazing together.

Ruth has been amazing to work with. As a busy professional herself who worked in Industry before going full time professional — Ruth understands how to balance work and training to achieve your goals. I can’t speak highly enough about how great it is to work with Ruth, and the whole Riot team. Will and Clare have created a community at Riot that isn’t just a club or a team but a mindset. When you look at other clubs they lack the riot way of doing things — Riot is all about the members.

“I joined Riot just over 2 years ago and I’ve absolutely loved being part of the club. Being surrounded by so many driven, inspiring and talented people has made a huge impact on my training and has genuinely been the best decision in my triathlon journey.

Being coached by Ruth has been brilliant for me, having been an age-grouper herself she understands the need to be flexible and has been very responsive to my lifestyle and work demands, always adapting my training and providing a good balance of pushing me and also ensuring I’m getting the right recovery. I think this has been a big contributor to avoiding injury for over the last 2 years and enabled me to continuously improve across swim, bike and run.

I never have the same week twice, the sessions are always different or a build on previous ones and I’ve achieved results I never thought would be possible. With her guidance I came 3rd Overall female at the 70.3 world championships and took the Overall female win in my first Ironman. I can’t thank her enough for all her help and I’m really excited for another year working with her and training with the best bunch of people, having a heap of fun along the way.”
